new post

I don't really have much to say but am tired of seeing the same thing up on my site. :) (plus I am tired of other people's blogs being the same and I am hoping they will follow my example. hee hee)

So the end of the quarter is approaching and I am not really looking forward to the next 13 days. I have 2 papers and 2 tests and a presentation. Oh joy. I think it will be okay though. I am just unsure right now. I always get this way I guess.

This quarter sure had dragged on. I am ready for Spring quarter...which I am sure will go much faster. It is my last and therefore I must enjoy every moment. This quarter I have tried to do more things that I need to experience before I graduate such as making a waffle in Gwinn, and going to see a play in the theatre. Both were good. :) lol. Anyway, I should go...ttfn.

EMP

It is amazing how busy I have been, and yet I can't think of anything specific that I have really done since I last posted. :) It has just been a busy week I guess. My week days are pretty busy with all my little things.

Yesterday I ended up going to JonTon's to "study." We spent about an hour studying and about 2.5 hours hanging out. :) It was nice though. We had a wonderful homemade pizza dinner. And we watched some of the Olympics while continuing to discuss the superior/inferiority of the Canadian channel and NBC. :)

Friday night my friends and I went to Value Village to see if we could find clothes that would be in the 1950's era. We are looking for these clothes because next Saturday is the Experience Moyer Project (EMP). It is an event put on my Moyer that will be pretty cool. Each floor is a different theme and they have different activities etc. So, I ended up calling Tonia while at Value Village to see if she had anything I could borrow, because I thought she would be a pretty good resource. :) She said she could help me out, so I only ended up buying shoes at Value Village. Then yesterday when I went over to her house I found out that she had made me a poodle skirt! :) (It technically has a record on it instead of a poodle, but you get the idea...) So, that is what I will be wearing next Saturday! I might end up wearing it on Friday too, but I am unsure as of right now.

Only 2 more weeks of classes left and then I have a couple days of finals before I can come home. :) I am ready for the quarter to be over, but I am not sure I am ready for the next 2 weeks. lol. Oh well. Ready or not here they come...

I should have pictures to post soon of last weekend and also last night at Emerson Film Fest. :)

Quick post before class

Hey everybody! I don't have much time to post, but thought I should update you all since I am not sure when I will next get a chance (my weeks are pretty busy). This weekend was really great. Because we had Monday off I was able to fit in more stuff.

On Saturday Kristen, Vern, and Andrea came up to visit. Kristen was only there for about 5 hours or so, but it was still a great visit. We ate lunch at Chipotle and then walked around the UW campus and the Ave. It was fun. After Kristen left we took Andrea to Pike Place, and Kerry Park since she had never been to Seattle. It is nice to visit those places again, I don't go to them enough. :) We went to Dinner at spaghetti Factory and celebrated Megan and Andrea's birthdays early. It was nice.
Vern and Andrea spent the night and so we also went out to lunch on Sunday.

It was a very nice visit. I am glad that they came up, I haven't seen them in a while. After they left on Sunday, I did a little bit of homework and then just relaxed before evening church with JonTon.

On Monday I did homework in the morning and early afternoon and then left to spend the evening with JonTon. It was nice to get off campus and watch a movie with Tonia. I helped Tonia sign up for Netflix, so now we can have our movies all set up for the next few weeks. :) I heart Netflix.

So, that was my weekend....In other news I am finally registered for my classes next quarter. I attempted to register for them on Friday, but had some difficulty, but it all got worked out today. :) Yay! For the first time in 3-4 quarters I am only taking 15 (I have been taking 17). :) So that should be good. I guess I have told you all that already though. Scroll down to a couple of days ago if you want to see my schedule again for next quarter. :)

Anyway, I guess I should get ready for class. Hope everyone is doing well! :)

Could ya would ya, ain't ya gonna, if I asked you would you wanna, be my baby tonight!

This week has been going pretty well. I haven't had anything major due in any of my classes so I have just been trying to relax a little. On Monday night I went to JonTon's and watched the movie "Just Like Heaven." I would recommend this chick flick to everyone interested. :) It is very cute, Tonia and I enjoyed it a lot. After the movie, and once Jonathan was home from work we watched the Olympics. It was a very nice evening. :)

Yesterday was a very long day for me. I had my normal classes and then work, and then I had a group project. We threw a Valentine's Day Party for a sunday school group at the Salvation Army church in Ballard. We had a about 40 kids show up and all it went pretty well considering the large turn out. We did however expect that many kids, so it was all good. :) We had a cookie decorating station, a valentine making station, a coloring station, a heart bingo station, and we played a couple games as well. I would call it a success! :)....After that it was like 9:00 and I watched a little of the movie my floor was watching, but I had already seen it so I didn't stay very long. I hadn't had any dinner so Emily and I went to Taco Bell at 10:30ish. heh. Then I cam back to my room and watched more of the Olympics! Yay!

Today I have gone to class and done homework. I got a package from Aunt Linda today! I was slightly afraid that it would be the dreaded flamingo, however it was not. I was rewarded with Valentine things instead. She sent a really cool magnetic "Mr. Right." You can dress him up (or down) in different out fits. It is very fun. Bonnie likes it as well, although I think she is slightly disturbed by it. lol. It is now proudly displayed on the front of our fridge. hee hee. :) It makes me laugh. :) Thanks Aunt Linda!

Anyway, I better get to class. I just got done with dinner and have been killing time until class starts. Bah!

My friends are coming up this weekend so I am excited about that. Bonnie and I have to make sure the room is presentable though. I think we will end up doing this on Friday. However, it won't take too long cause it looks pretty good (at least my side. lol). Anyway, ttfn. ~Laura

I heart the Olympics!

So, I have been watching the Olympics as much as possible this weekend. I watched most of the opening ceremonies on Friday night, but left after the parade of nations to go watch a movie with the girls on the floor. Then today I got up and watched as much as I could. I ended up doing a lot of shopping today. I went to the Dollar Tree and Rite Aid for stuff for my group project and then my friends and I went to Fred Meyer and Safeway to stalk up on needed items. :) I managed to do a little homework, but have spent most of my day watching the Olympics. Since I have cable there are 4 channels that possibly show Olympic activities. Obviously NBC does (but mostly in the evening), then USA, and CNBC also showed some things in the morning and afternoon. Plus the Canadian broadcasting channel had Olympics on most of the day. This was interesting because you get the Canadian slant on things. I must say though that I think that America does a better job of presenting the Olympics than Canada. I feel there are more special interest stories with the U.S., plus our graphics and theme song are better. hee hee. I haven't decided how I am going to balance all my required responsibilities and still be able to get in as much Olympic watching as possible these next 2 weeks. lol. Oh well, priorities I guess....

After today's film class I will not have anything big due for a couple of weeks. This will be nice, maybe I can relax a little. Today though I have my midterm in my film class. I expect it to be pretty hard, and I hope I am prepared. I am not sure how I could have really studied more though so...we shall see. :)

Later tonight I am going to go to JonTon's. It will be nice to get off campus, do my laundry, and hang out with family. I am increasingly homesick and tired of all things related to school. So, hopefully tonight helps. :) I am sure it will....

so close, and yet....

Today I met with my advisor to plan for next quarter's classes. It was a nice visit since I like my advisor and since she likes me (she enjoys the fact that I plan ahead. hee hee). So, anyway for the first time in like 3-4 quarters I am only going to be taking 15 credits (as opposed to 17)! Hopefully this will make my last quarter somewhat easier...but maybe not since they are all upper division classes. heh. Also I will enjoy next quarter's schedule a lot more than this quarter's. I am back to having MWF classes which means I can work on Tuesday and Thursday and also use these days for homework. This will take the pressure off MWF and allow me to be not so stressed. I will have 2 evening classes however, which means that I will have something every evening except Friday...oh well. For all who care below is what my class schedule will look like (assuming I actually get my classes when I register...which hasn't been a problem so far). It is nice to see what the end will look like. lol

Go Seahawks!

Another week has passed successfully. I sometimes wonder on Mondays if I will make it until Friday, but I always do somehow. :) The first part of this week was pretty stressful with the planning for tests and papers, but the second half wasn't so bad.

Today when I woke up the power was out. Apparently it went off about 5:15 a.m. and it didn't come back on until about 9:30 a.m. It was kinda exciting, but I was asleep for most of it, so that kinda sucks. lol. I don't think that power outages happen enough. lol.

I have spent today doing homework...and avoiding doing homework. However, I believe that I have now gotten enough done to forget about the rest. lol. This way I can spend all tomorrow relaxing. I am going to watch the superbowl with JonTon at Dan and Joy's. This should be good...hopefully the Seahawks will win! Woot! I told Jonathan I wanted a riot in the streets of Seattle if we win...after discussion we decided the riot should be more like mardi gras and less like WTO riots...hee hee. :)

Anyway, I don't really have much to say I guess, just thought I would update since I had the time finally. :) Hope you have a good weekend!

Singleness

As we approach Single Awareness Day (aka Valentine's Day) I thought I would use my blog for something other than my daily schedule: personal rhetoric. :)

Today in my Corinthians Bible Study we studied 1 Cor. 7, which is on marriage. In this chapter Paul discusses how he wishes that all could be unmarried like he is. Throughout the chapter we see that the mindset is quite opposite than today's American Protestant mindset. Today the church has become wedding factories; it is the business of the church to marry people. The Protestant view seems to have the idea that if you are not married than there is something wrong.

It used to be that in the Jewish tradition marriage made someone whole (as in Adam and Eve completing one another). However, Paul's view is that after Christ came the wholeness is found in the union with Christ not with another human being. Which I thought was an interesting point.

Paul says in 1 Cor. 7:32-33 "An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs--how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of the world--how he can please his wife--and his interests are divided." Singles can devote themselves more wholly to the things of the Lord without being distracted by family, etc. This is what the books I have read reiterate.

My time here at SPU has been spent in reflection on my singleness. My Bible Studies have focused on what Christian singleness looks like. Unlike what Paul appears to be saying here (i.e. singleness is the better way) the books I have read primarily state that " 'while you are waiting' you should live this way..." However, is there a way that Christians today are not thinking about? Churches today struggle with what to do with single adults. They have youth programs, college programs, married programs, but rarely do they have single adult programs (and if they do it is awkward because there is a wide age range). For the church to be ignoring these people is wrong. We need churches who champion these people.

I am saying this not to say that marriage is bad, for not even Paul is saying that. Paul is saying that neither marriage nor singleness is wrong but one allows more time/service for God. I believe that the Protestant outlook perhaps needs to be revamped. These people do not deserve our pity but our pride for they are serving the Lord in a way that others cannot. God has called them to singleness, whether it is for a short time or for their whole life. Singles should not be looked down upon but rather uplifted for they are doing something few are able to.

Perhaps I can state these things because I have had strong single adult role models in my life. People I look up to and want to be like. For that reason I know that if I don't get married it will not be the end of the world (despite what the world--or even the church--tells me.) However, it saddens me to see the American Protestant mindset to be so skewed.

I hope that this allows you to ponder singleness in a way perhaps you hadn't before. I also hope that the Christian community can change because they way it is now is not right.

Well I have decided to give up on the paper of death...sometimes I wonder why I stress out so much since all I need to get in my classes is a 'D' to graduate. I think I would have to try really hard to get a 'D.' So...I guess that is good news. lol.

This is my stressful week, after this week I feel like I will be able to make it through the next of the quarter. I have 2 tests tomorrow...One in Math (which is hard to study for...plus we get note cards) and the other test is Organizational Behavior (50 multiple choice questions....so I figure I can BS it...that is what Organizational Behavior is all about really...a bunch of BS). So....that is my day tomorrow. Then on Thursday my paper is due, but I think it is kinda crappy. There isn't much more I can do for it though....

Anyway, I am hoping that after tomorrow I can breathe a little easier...

Monday, January 30, 2006

Can't blog now...must work on the latest Paper of Death.

Sunday, January 29, 2006

I should be working on my paper for film class, but I felt the need to delay it a few more minutes. I have no at this point in the weekend done all my other homework, which means I can no longer put it off. Sadness. It is an analytic essay on the movie "Mrs. Soffel." I am not sure if any of you have seen this movie, but it is kinda dumb. It stars Diane Keaton and Mel Gibson and was made in 1984. It is based on the true story from 1901 where a jail wardon's wife falls in love with a prisoner and helps him to escape. Bonnie and I watched it on Friday and both agreed that it was pretty dumb (although Bonnie felt this more strongly than I...we often have different tastes in movies). Anyway, now I have to write a paper on it and I really have no idea how I am going to do that. Grr.

This weekend hasn't been too bad. I didn't end up going to the talent show on Friday, I did homework instead. However, I did go to lunch with Emily and her parents on Saturday...I also went to both basketball games (SPU won both!). Then I spent all of yesterday evening doing homework. So....now I must press on and complete this paper because I will really have no time to do it this week. I think that after these next two weeks my school life might slow down a little. We shall see. I am glad that this week begins February because I am tired of January...

Thursday, January 26, 2006

Will it ever end?

I figured I should blog since I know how sad it is when the blogs I go to read aren't new. I don't really have anything new to report though. I feel like I am just keeping my head above water these days. The stress level remains pretty constant because of the way my schedule has worked out this quarter. I am managing it, but it is annoying. I am looking forward to when I don't have all these lame assignments to do. That will be nice. I wish I had more time to just settle and let my allow myself to consider what is going on in my head. However, if I had the time I probably wouldn't spend it analyzing my deep inner thoughts....sad day. I can't believe that tomorrow is Friday already. This week has gone by pretty fast. I feel like the whole month of January has gone by pretty slow though. I don't know...I just feel like I should be farther along in the quarter than I actually am...perhaps that is just wishful thinking though. I'm not sure. I have another busy weekend planned. It is homecoming weekend so there are lots of things to do that would be more fun than homework. I hope to make it to some, but doubt I can make it to all since I need to work on a film paper that is due next week. In case you care to see how busy it could be see below:

Friday:
11-12:20 Math Class
1:00 Lunch
1:30-2:50 Organizational Behavior
3:30-5:00 Work
5:30ish Dinner
7:30 Talent Show (maybe)

Saturday:
-Brunch with Emily and her parents (possibly)
-Homework
-bridesmaid dress measurements with Megan for Andrea's wedding
-Homecoming B-ball games (hopefully)
-Watch the movie for film class that I will be writing a paper on

Sunday:
-finish up all the homework I didn't get done on Saturday
5:45-8ish Evening Church with JonTon

So yeah...that is basically what is stressing me out I guess. It just annoys me that I spend all week trying to make it to the weekend, then the weekend I spend catching up for the week ahead. Bleh. Anyway...I think that is enough of a vent for now. Hope you all enjoy your weekends...

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

And the week continues

So, has anybody seen the movie "Dead Again"? We watched it today in my film class...and I am now afraid of scissors. Creepy....However, it was a good movie I guess. It is different anyways. :) I would recommend it though...I think. (Quite the recommendation isn't it!) lol.

So, I am currently at work playing the waiting game...waiting for my supervisor to finish what he is doing so that I have something to do. :) That's okay though because it gives me a chance to blog. lol. This work day has been pretty slow....45 minutes left though! heh.

Yesterday was nice at JonTon's. Julie was there too and Jonathan had to work late so it worked out nice to have a girls night! We watched "Mother-in-law" and "Must Love Dogs" both are cute. :) I was also able to buy gas for my car while in Renton (even though it doesn't really have all that much cheaper gas than Seattle...)Also I was able to do 3 loads of laundry! Yay! I heart free laundry. It was nice to get off campus and hang out in the real world...sorta. Plus I got a real dinner...none of that fake stuff Gwinn attempts to pass as food. lol

Anyway, I guess I don't have much else to say. Which means I have to find another way to kill time. lol. Maybe Jonathan has e-mailed me back by now....

Stupid Toilet :(

This weekend has gone by fast, but today was pretty much spent entirely relaxing, so that was nice. Here is what I did this weekend:

Friday:
After classes I went to work for a total of 1.5 hours! Woo Hoo! It bothers me that I have all these random work times because of my class schedule, but oh well....After work in the evening I went to a showing of the documentary "Hoop Dreams" here on campus. The documentary was made in 1994 and follows two kids from the inner city of Chicago as they try to achieve their dream of playing for the NBA. It follows them from their freshman year in high school to their first year at college. It was really good. I would recommend it to all who care about such things. :)

Saturday:
This was my busiest day this weekend. I got up at 8:10 in order to be able to start my homework by 9. lol. I worked on homework until about 2:00 when I went to see another documentary that was showing on campus called "Born into Brothels." This film was about the children born into families where the mom is a prostitute in Calcutta, India. A lady who was working with the children was a photographer and she gave the children camera's and started teaching them about photography. In this way they were able to learn something new and be able to express the way they saw the world around them. The lady then used the photographs they had taken to raise money for them by selling them in galleries in New York, etc. It was definitely a more somber film than "Hoop Dreams," but it was also really good. I would recommend it as well...and for a movie about children of prostitutes it is fairly clean (has some language, etc.)...(p.s. if you want another good movie recommendation from my film face try to get your hands on the 1941 movie "A Woman's Face." I really enjoyed it...but Netflix doesn't have it....)

Then after the movie I did a little more homework before dinner...After dinner most of SPU went to see Ashton Cup. This is an event put on by Ashton Hall where each floor does a skit thing put to music. It is kinda crazy, and usually a bit odd and humorous. Moyer residents were only able to stay for about an hour of it because we had to go to Broomball! Broomball is an annual event played against Robbins Apartments. It is like hockey sorta except that you have no ice skates, you play with ducktaped brooms, and you use a four square ball instead of a puck. It is really fun though. Unfortunately, however we lost which means we are now stuck with the ugly toilet (which we got rid of last year!) until we play them again next year. Also, I was quite proud of myself for not falling on the ice...however, during the last 10 minutes of the game I fell on right side of my body. lol. So I am pretty stiff. Nothing too serious though. :) After Broomball Moyer peeps went to Dick's (a cheap burger place) and hung out for a little bit before coming back and going to bed, since by that time it was past midnight.

Sunday:
Today I spent the morning finishing up my homework, which meant that I had the entire rest of the day to do nothing! Yea! It was very exciting. I didn't really do anything exciting though. I just hung around and was really lazy. lol. This evening I watched the Seahawk's game! At evening church they had a party and were watching the game before the service, so I went to part of that with JonTon. We were all pretty excited that Seattle is going to the superbowl! Fun, fun! :) Now I am back from church and just hanging out. I am going to watch Grey's Anatomy with a couple of my friends in about a half an hour.

So, that has been my weekend. Tomorrow is the beginning of another lame and annoying week. I really do live for the weekends and pray each week that I make it alive to them. lol. Tomorrow I am going to JonTon's in the evening, which should be fun. I have saved up all my laundry just for them. lol. :) Anyway, ttfn. ~Laura

a quick post

Just a quick post so that you all have something to read. lol. I am currently in the midst of a busy week. Even though this school week is shorter because of the holiday it is more stressful I think. Although, it is probably just me making a bigger deal out of things than needs be. In this way I should perhaps try to be more like my roommate…then again. lol. ;) I just have a lot of things due this week which I am slowly getting done. I just completed 2 rough drafts in 3 hours! One 4.5 page and one 2.5 page! Go me! I will hopefully make them final drafts when I get back from my bible study class tonight at 8ish. We shall see. I also have a meeting at 10:00 tonight so that is one more thing I have to do. However, I think I am slowly checking off enough things on my list to cause me to stop stressing out. lol. We shall see. Anyway, ttfn.

Monday, January 16, 2006

yay for long weekends!

So this weekend was really nice. I was able to get things accomplished but still had plenty of time to relax. It was amazing. lol. I basically just hung out all weekend with the girls from the dorm. We watched lots of movies and ran errands. I was able to finish most of my homework on Saturday and only had to finish it up on Sunday. I probably should have started on my paper that is due Friday...but i didn't. Oh well. I didn't have to work today either which was nice....

I went to JonTon's tonight. It was nice to be able to hang out and relax away from campus. I think that campus is sorta a downer for me right now, just because it reminds me of how temporary my time is here and the looming unknown that is to come. Tonia and I were thinking of making Monday night a regular at their place. Tonia and I were able to watch a chick flick before Jonathan got home from work, which was nice. Tonia hasn't seen chick flicks in a while so if we do the Monday night thing we will continue to watch chick flicks. :) It should be good.

I feel like I could have more to say, but really have no words. I guess I will just go to bed. ttfn.

Well, this is different....

What an interesting beginning to the quarter. I just feel sorta weird. I am slowly beginning to realize that I actually have to get my act together since I am graduating in June. Ahh! It is causing me to really evaluate myself and I am not sure what to think of my findings.

...Anyway, my classes are going pretty well so far. I am taking Organizational Behavior (kinda dull, and so far not much work....but there is a group project approaching), 1 Corinthians Bible Study (Probably going to be one of my favorite classes), Contemporary mathematics (well, it's math which sucks, but so far not too big of a work load or too difficult of concepts), and The Art of Film (another possible favorite! I get to watch a movie every Tuesday and talk about it every Thursday...oh yeah and do some papers as well...) So far I haven't had a big work load for my classes, which I hope continues because I really have a crappy schedule for doing homework. Most days I only have a few hours to do homework because of classes, work, and evening activities (such as Hall Council, etc.)

I started work on Monday and it is sorta annoying. Because of my class schedule my work schedule is kinda messed up. I only work a few hours a day which is kinda annoying. Life would be a lot easier without my need to work. I would have more time to do homework and stuff. It was nice last week when I wasn't working...Oh well. I am able to take one person to work with me on Tuesday and Thursdays which I didn't think I would be able to do because of my weird schedule, so that is good. Hopefully things will get better, but for now I am kinda annoyed.

The rest of my time is devoted to trying to ignore the fact that I am graduating in June. lol. I really have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life. It is kinda stressing me out. I don't know where I am gonna live or work....Nor do I know where I want to live of work. lol. I have realized something though. An important revelation that I should remember: I am not my brother. This obvious statement is an important one. My life will not take the same shape as his, nor should I expect it to. I may not end up living in Seattle with a group of friends. I will not find my future spouse in college. I will not make the amount of money he does just out of college...But all that is okay....

I don't really have much to say but I was feeling guilty for neglecting my blog. :) JonTon comes down tonight and will be here until early Sunday morning. It should add some excitement to my house. lol. I am excited about Christmas festivities...from now until Sunday is basically one big party. lol.

I have been enjoying my Christmas break and have been relaxing quite a bit. I am working a few hours each day for Longview Surgical group, but nothing stressful. :) I am glad for the $$. I babysat last night for my usual family. Last night was not really one of their shining moments, but they were fine. It is always nice to see them. :) Other than that I haven't been up to much, just chillin' with family and friends. :)

I really don't have much to say to ya'all so I guess I will leave it at that for now...

Happy @ Home

I have now been at home since Friday night and am enjoying my time away from school. It is nice to just be able to relax. :) I have been spending the last couple of day with family and Friends.

Saturday morning Teresa, mom and I went to Susie's house to be crafty. I tagged along to the sewing festival usually put on by Aunt Linda. It was fun to be crafty. This Saturday we are going there again to have a card making party. It should be fun. :)

Saturday evening my family and I went to see The Chronicles of Narnia. It was a really good movie I thought! I would definitely go back to see it in theatres if anyone wants to. lol. It is one I want to own as well...

On Monday I went out to Grandma and Grandad's with my Dad and Aunt Linda. It was nice to be out there again and to eat lunch, which is always good at Grandma's. :) I don't usually go out there with just Dad and Aunt Linda, so that was cool too. :)

Today I did the prep work for my work at Longview Surgical Group. I am helping out for a couple of weeks purging charts. It is nice to be able to make some money while at home. :)

Then later this afternoon Teresa and I went to Grandma and Grandpa's house and was able to have a good visit with them. :) We chatted and then played some cards. Despite the 3 or 4 games of pinochle we played I didn't win any of them. Oh well, I am used to that. lol. :)

I can already tell that this break will go by too quickly, better enjoy it while it lasts....

Can I go home yet? Please?!

So I am almost done with my paper of death (aka my English paper). All my other papers are finished so it is just this last one that is keeping me from enjoying anything tonight. I am giving up pretty soon and calling it good. I have my doubts that I will get a good grade on the paper, but there is only so much I can do. Papers are over rated anyway (although try telling that to an English professor...).

My roommate has left me. Yep, Bonnie was able to escape this stress sooner than I. It is a sad reality. However, my room is clean and I have it all to myself tonight! Yeah! (No offense Bonnie) lol. I was telling Emily earlier today that I will go home and watch TV and it will be weird because I won't have my commentator beside me. lol. :) I heart my roommate.

So tomorrow I am getting up early to take my friend Christine to the airport and then coming back and sleeping. lol. I will get up in time to look over once more all of my papers and then e-mail them out to the professors before my final at 1:00. This final is more of a party than anything else, so at least it won't be stressful. After that, I am done with SPU for the quarter!! I will come back to my room and pack and get ready to go. A couple of my friends and I are going to go out to dinner to celebrate being done for the quarter, so that will be nice. I don't know when I am leaving for home, but sometime tomorrow evening. It will be nice to be home.

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

This day has gone from bad to worse. I hope finals don't kill me.
3 papers down, 2.5 papers to go....

Finals Week

So, tomorrow is the official start of finals week. I am excited about it actually because it means the end of the quarter! Tomorrow I have my first and only test of finals week. lol. Unfortunately I have final class periods I have to attend and papers to still write. I have written 3 of the 5 papers I had. I have most of my English paper written and have yet to start on my Theology paper to write though. Oh well. I think I will do fine on my Economics test tomorrow. I have gotten B+'s on my tests so I figure I will do about the same on my final....we shall see. I guess technically I haven't studied very well, but I didn't study all that hard for the other tests in the class so....yeah.

Anyway, I am off to pick up Jonathan from his Seattle office and head to Renton for a night of semirelaxing. lol. We will see how relaxed I get with my thoughts always returning to the test tomorrow and the papers due Friday. heh.

See you all soon!

Saturday, December 03, 2005

I am fairly annoyed at the moment. I have been up since 8:30 this morning and haven’t really gotten anything accomplished. I am having such a difficult time with this English paper. I can’t even decide where to start on the 7 page paper! The rough draft is due on Monday and although not all 7 pages need to be completed it would be nice because then I could get more of a critique. It is all just frustrating. I really have no idea why this class is so hard for me to write papers for. It sucks though. I think I could finish all 4 of my other papers this weekend if I wasn’t working on this lame one. Grrr.

Snow?!

Well it pretty much snowed all afternoon up here, however none of it stuck. It is still sorta raining outside right now and I have a feeling that it might snow and stick over night if it gets cold enough. So the two main questions on my mind are: 1)will classes be canceled tomorrow and 2) do I want classes to be canceled tomorrow. lol.

It was my last day at work this quarter today and I went home early because of the snow. hee hee. I probably could have stayed there but I wasn't sure if the snow would start sticking or not. So I figured it was as good an excuse as any to skip out early. lol.

On another note my paper count is up to 5! That is right I have 5 papers to write before next Friday. Ugh. I am only really concerned about one of them though (my English one). So, I will be working on those this weekend. Which will be hard since I have 3 parties and Tradition to go to this weekend. I will probably end up spending late nights working on them this next week. Double Ugh.

Anyway, I guess I should see about dinner soon. Hope you are all enjoying the weather. Hopefully I will actually be able to write about real snow tomorrow. :)
Keep me in your prayers over the next week. I will need them. ttfn

P.S. No Shave November is now over and it makes me sad. All the guys were just getting to look good when they shaved it all off. Sad day.

Monday, November 28, 2005

So, I know in reality that next Friday will be here before I know it and I will be able to go home and relax...however, right now it doesn't feel that way. Right now I am facing the stress of the last week of classes. I am dreading the paper writing. Ugh. This quarter has been pretty hard on the paper writing, I have never had so much trouble writing papers. I usually enjoy it in some sick way, but this quarter has killed me. Although I have gotten good grades on all my lame papers this quarter, except for in my English class. For some reason that teacher just doesn't relate to my writing style or something. Even after I met with her it didn't improve my paper grade any. I got the same grade I got on the first paper I wrote for her. It is really frustrating. Especially since it is her class I have to write my major paper next week. The whole thing is aggravating.

P.S. There is rumor of snow for tomorrow (Tuesday)...I don't think it will actually snow, but I am concerned about ice...

I love home

I had such a good weekend, I wish it could have lasted forever. I am sorry that I am back at school facing the reality of 3 papers to write. Ugh.

Fun things I did this weekend:
-had 2 Thanksgivings!
-got to see all of my extended family
-played cards with extended family
-played with Aunt Linda's cat (probably the first cat I have actually liked...)
-watched Friends season 10 with Kristen
-played Halo 2 with friends
-beat Halo 1 the game with Andrea

Monday, November 21, 2005

Things that made me sad today:
-the amount of work I still have to do before the quarter is over
-the fact that my two papers aren't done yet, I still have to finish them by Wednesday.
-the fact that it is Monday and not Wednesday.

Things that made me happy today:
-Christmas lights went up in the Loop (I heart tradition-the event-at SPU...Moyer has the best view!)
-The enormous amount of sticky tack that I was able to take from a poster that was left up too long (now I will use it for later posters that i put up! Yay for being the publicist!)
-The smiley face puddings that I requested Gwinn make finally appeared today! They bring me great joy. :)

Sunday, November 20, 2005

yeah....

So apparently I am not so good at everyday blogging anymore. However, 3ish times a week isn't bad. :)

This week has gone by pretty fast despite the potential of it to drag by. lol.

I don't really have anything to say, I am actually doing pretty well on my papers. I finished my English paper and hope to go over it with the teacher before Wednesday so that I can get a better grade on it than I did my last paper. heh. My Economics paper is coming along. It is almost done. I just have to figure out a few more things and finish it off. So those are both good things. It is nice since neither of the papers are due until Wednesday. Good Laura.

I went to see Harry Potter on Friday night with Megan. It was amazing! I was sitting there watching it thinking to myself, "I love Harry Potter." They did leave quite a bit out from the books...but stayed pretty true to the larger story. :) I can't wait til it comes out on video! hee hee.

At 3:00 today (15 minutes from now) is Moyer's Super Staff. It when the Hall Council, SMCs, and PAs meet together (happens once a quarter) and just hang out. It should be good. :) Then later tonight I am going to church with JonTon. So, that is my day.

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

Can the quarter end now please....

So, despite the fact that there is only one more full week of classes (next week doesn't really count since it only has 2 class days because of Thanksgiving), I am quite ready for it to end now. In a weeks time I have 3 papers due (on the same day!!). Granted 2 of them are really short 1-2 page papers and the third paper is only 5-6 pages (still relatively short compared to some papers people in college have to write). It is really annoying. Now, I should probably be working on them right now instead of blogging....but why would I want to do that? I am slowly ticking down the hours of procrastination, slowly realizing that the time is coming when I will be able to do it no more. It is depressing. Plus I have had classes basically all day today (even an evening class) so I don't really feel like doing anything. Bad Laura.

On the upside I am going to see Harry Potter this Friday with Megan! I am excited about this fact (despite that it is further delaying my paper writing). I figure that in 10 years I will remember the Harry Potter and not the stress of writing my papers. lol. Plus, I don't go to movies very often in Seattle and when I get the chance to I try and take it. I am so behind on my movie watching. My post-it note of movies I need to see is rather long. It is really sad. I am looking forward to next year when I am out of school, have a job, and more time...then I can try to catch up/keep up. lol. I am hoping that it works out to see more movies with Tonia next year as well. Since Jonathan doesn't really see the chick flicks anymore. I will have to take her. :) lol. That is the plan anyway....however first I have to graduate and get a job. More depression.

Anyway, I guess that is all I have to say for now...I am looking forward to seeing you all in a week! Hope everything is a tad more upbeat in your world. ttfn.

Retreat!

So here is my weekend:

On Friday we (leadership) left for retreat at about 4:00 in the afternoon. We stopped for Dinner in Issaquah at 5ish and arrived at the camp at about 6:15. After taking care of the business side of things (i.e. paying) we headed off to our lodge to prepare for the rest of the people arriving. We turned on the heat and set out some snacks. At about 7:15 the first car arrived. It was raining outside and Steph and I decided to go out and direct cars since we wanted them to park certain places, etc. It was surprisingly fun to be out in the rain directing cars. We were wearing dark clothes, and it was raining, so every time a car would come down the drive we would break out our cell phones and use the light from them to get the attention of the car. :) After we were cold and wet, and most everyone had arrived Steph and I went in to join the fun. :) On Friday night after everyone arrived we basically just hung around and played games. The camp lodge has tons of games inside: fooseball, carpet ball, air hockey, and ping pong. Plus we brought most of the games from the Hall Council Closet. :) We also had a getting to know you session in our "breakout groups." These groups were led by each of the Hall Council members (including mawah) and the 3 PAs. We just played fun games and stuff. It went well. Most people stayed up entirely too late this night.

On Saturday Hall Council had to be ready at 8:45 to set up breakfast. Then the rest of the day was a mixture of free time and breached/floor groups. During free time we had a game called Bucketball. It is a tradition for Moyer. I can't remember if I described it last year, but I will do so now. There are 2 teams, 2 buckets, 1 ball. The object is to get the ball in your teams bucket. You play til 7 (or at least we do)...other than that there are no rules...although we set up some offside boundaries for safety reasons. :) I did not play this year because I played a little last year and decided it wasn't for me. However, I enjoyed watching. I was very happy that this year there was no blood. Last year there was several minor blood incidents. lol. In the evening we had a speaker come and talk to us. It was a guy that works for SPU that Matthew (HC President) knows from a small group the guy led. He as a good speaker, but a tad long winded. He talked about Unity, which was basically our theme for the weekend. It was good. Then after the speaker Hall Council met with him privately. I found this time to be more meaningful/helpful. It was really nice. :)

Then on Sunday Hall Council had to be ready at 7:45 for breakfast. After breakfast the SMCs (Student Ministry Coordinators) led a service. It was really good too. They provided us with some quiet time, which was nice as well. Then we had everyone help us clean up and everyone packed up. We were able to accomplish this fairly quickly. :) We took group pictures and then pretty much everyone left. Bonnie's car was one of the last ones (besides Hall Council) to leave and she had an extra seat. Well, as she was driving off we decided that we need her extra seat...so I went running after her car screaming her name...but she didn't hear me. It was pretty funny though. lol. So then Hall Council left and funny enough we beat Bonnie (and several other people) home...apparently people got lost. :) So, we got back to Moyer at 12:30.

It was a very nice weekend and it went pretty well. I could go more into detail about the problems that occurred and more of what we did...but you will have to ask me in person. Please enjoy the pictures I have included below. They are somewhat in reverse order fyi. I hope to see a lot of you in a week and a half for Thanksgiving. Have a good week.

I heart extended weekends

So, today I have no school! I slept in until almost 9:30, it was nice. Part of me feels bad for those of you in schools that don't celebrate holidays such as this. However, I am glad I chose one that does. :)

Today will be pretty busy though. I have to go shopping for all the things we need for retreat. We have a whole list and like 4 different places to go! It should be good though. We leave tonight at 6:00 for retreat...or rather that is when most people leave. Me and most of Hall Council will be leaving at 4:00. :) I am hoping we remember everything and that everything runs smoothly. :)

For the next like 2 hours I plan to do homework so that I won't have to do tons when I get back on Sunday...but I am not sure how successful that plan will be. :( Oh well.

So, that is my weekend plans, and the reason I won't be blogging for the next few days. I will try to post again on Sunday...Depending on homework it might have to be Monday though. Hopefully I will have pictures as well. :) ttfn

Happy Day

So, when I got back from work today I was happy to see that my parking place was the only one without a car in it! :) My sign is working! There was definately 2 cars to the right of my spot who didn't belong there, but since they weren't in my spot I didn't care. hee hee. Yea for mean signs that scare people away!!

Today I have spent my whole day not having fun. lol. I worked and then I came back and did homework, which meant writing a paper. I am done with all that now though so I can enjoy my evening now. Except that most of my evening will be taken up with Hall Council...which isn't a bad thing, but it isn't exactly the same as watching tv or hanging out with people all night. Oh well. :)

Hall Council is busy putting the finishing touches on the Hall Retreat plans that are this weekend! It should be pretty good. It looks like it will rain much of the time though. :) I am on the Retreat Committee so I have been involved with all of the planning. It has been good. On Sunday we had a leadership training dinner which went well. We learned about our personalities. I am an ISTJ for all who care to know. :) Emily one of my friends on Hall Council is also an ISTJ, we find this funny. We are similiar in a lot of ways...scary really.

Anyway, I am going to go wash my dishes before Gilmore Girls starts at 8! I am so excited for tonights episode! Yea for having 10ish people in my room! ttfn

Bleh

I am so tired of school. I really want it to be over. Ugh. I have to many due dates approaching, and I don't want to deal with any of them. Bleh. I have decided that I relly don't care for any of my classes...except for maybe my bible study...but even that is just mindless extra work. I almost think that I have lost all talent for writing papers...although oddly I got a good grade on the papers that I knew nothing about and a 'bad' grade on the paper that I knew something about. Go figure. It is all just a matter of the teachers opinion. It is highly annoying and I just don't care anymore!

K....that's all for now. Enjoy the following pictures from Halloween

Weekend!

Okay, so I am going to begin my weekend blog with Thursday. :)

On Thursday evening I went over to Megan's for our first real bible study of the quarter! (Bonnie is typing in your blog!!! Secret hidden message!) It was really good and it was nice to see everyone at once again..well except Janelle who wasn't there. While I was there Megan told me that Jaeyeon was in town, and I was like "Jaeyoen is in town!?" So, after bible study Megan and I ventured into downtown Seattle and found the hotel she was at. We later determined that it was the hotel we had eaten at on a previous occasion with the Longview gang. :) It was like 11:30 at night by the time we got there, so we only stayed for like an hour and a half, but it was good to see her. I am glad that she is doing well. :)

On Friday after classes I just spent time doing nothing. It was nice. My friends and I ended up hanging out in the 1.5 watching boys play hacky sack, which got pretty interesting. See pictures below. Then we wandered around looking for a movie to watch. We finally decided on Robin Hood Men in Tights. I had never seen that movie, so that was nice.

On Saturday I got up and did a little homework before JonTon and Aunt Linda and Susie came over. We then went to lunch at Costas Opa (the place where JonTon had their first date). It was pretty good, but I didn't really have anything greek. lol. After that we went to Jonathan's downtown office to pick up the tickets for the art museum. The Seattle Art museum (SAM) was amazing! We were only there for about an hour and a half or so but it was great. We toured the special exhibit which was on Louis Tiffany...as in Tiffany lamps. Some of the glass-ware was really complex. I thought of Grandma Ruth the whole time. :) I will have to go back and see the rest of the museum though. It was so great to hang out with everyone and I am glad that Aunt Linda and Susie were able to make it up. I had a wonderful time. :)For pictures you will have to go to Tonia or Aunt Linda's blog because they were the ones with the cameras.

Then after that we said goodbye to Aunt Linda and Susie and JonTon and I got ready for a costume party at Dan and Joy's. I dressed in my Dalmatian costume and JonTon went as the Phantom of the Opera and Christine. It was a really good party full of food, games, friends, and movies. :)

Today I have spent most of my day doing homework. This afternoon I was able to hang out a bit, but I did nothing of consequence. I am about to leave for evening church and meet up with JonTon. We might go get a frosty afterwards. :) Then later this evening I have a date with the television and a group of friends. lol. Hope your weekend went well.

It's coming....the end of the quarter, I'm scared.

I meant post on Monday or Tuesday, but here it is Wednesday and I have not posted yet. I am getting so bad at this. Sad day.

This weekend was really good. I loved spending time with my family and friends. I spent Friday night with my family. Saturday afternoon I spent with Grandma Theo and Grandad, which was really nice. I always enjoy a good visit out to their place. :) Then that evening my friends came over and we watched a couple movies then we stayed up until 2 a.m. talking. It was so nice. I wish we could have stayed and chatted longer. Then Sunday after church Grandma Ruth and Grandpa came over. It was wonderful seeing them and having Grandma in better health again. Then that evening I went over to Andrea's and hung out with her for a little bit. It would have been nice to have more time with her, but I took what I could get. :) Then on Monday I skipped classes and remained in Longview for some appointments. I came back to SPU in time for my evening meeting. However, upon returning there was someone once again in my parking spot! Who does that! It was 7:00 at night! SO ANNOYING! This is like the 10th time this year that someone has been in my spot...and I am not joking.

So, today was my first day of classes for the week since I skipped out on Monday's. It was sorta hard to get back in the swing of things since I had so much time off. Plus Wednesday is my busiest day anyway. I am too quickly approaching another bach of due dates. It is getting on my nerves and beginning to stress me out. I really am ready for this year to be over. After this year I will never again on a daily basis have to listen to boring sessions that present worthless information. I will never again have to define my self worth by some meaningless letter written on an assignment that is based on the ambiguous requirements of a professor. I will not have to appease the meticulous desires that teachers who are so vague about their grading that one can never tell what one is going to get.

My Ranting Question of the Day:
Why do teachers insist on requiring papers to be written with 1 inch margins when the default on Microsoft Word is 1.25 inches!?! Is the .25 really that big of deal? Whose bright idea was this anyway!!! It is a conspiracy...Don't get me started....

Yea for Firemen!

So, the most exciting thing about yesterday was the fact that Moyer had a small fire. Okay, so technically it wasn't a fire, but there was smoke, and the fire alarm did go off, and the fire department did come. So there ya go. :) It was quite the adventure. Unfortunately I was not in the dorm when the fire alarm went off, I was up eating dinner at Gwinn. However, news traveled quickly and before I was done eating we had heard that there was smoke in the movie lounge and that the people that found it couldn't find a PA and were calling the wrong Safety and Security number (but it still worked)...so they went and found the Vice President of Hall Council (which is funny if you know the guy). Anyway, we had to hang out in the loop for like a half an hour or so after dinner. Then we were allowed to go back in. Apparently the breaker above the movie lounge got tripped somehow and was getting hot and the heat sensors sensed it and tripped the fire alarm. However, everything is fine now. We are even still allowed to use the movie lounge. :) At least it was out of the routine right?

Yeah, so I thought I would fill you in on that. The other thing that happened last night was the 6th Hill Men's Fashion show...which is always interesting. Perhaps I will get some pictures from my friend and put them up. We shall see. Anyway, I am coming home today! Yea! So, I will see some of you soon. ttfn. ~Laura

A good day

So today was a pretty good day! :) One would not expect this from a Monday but it was nice. Below is what made it good:

-Got a B+ on my Economics Test
-Got a 95 on my paper I thought I would do poorly on (Jedi Master Bullshit lol.)
-Hall Council Dinner (a time when we focus on having fun together instead of business)
-Finally paid my summer tithe that I had been accumulating
-Talk to Kristen on the Phone (yea!)
-Hung out with Megan (haven't seen her in a while!..despite the fact that we life half a block away from eachother)
